Cetearyl Alcohol

is a mixture of fatty alcohols found naturally in coconut and palm oils. An alcohol in this sense isn’t a fermented mixture (like the beverage kind) it is a chemical compound of a certain molecular structure based on carbon and oxygen. It is used in our conditioner to keep the product stable, and also to moisturize and rehydrate the scalp and hair for a soft, silky feel.

Chamaemorus (Cloudberry) fruit extract

is derived from the cloudberry plant. The berries are rich in vitamin C and contain omega 6, 3, and vitamins A and E, which nourish the hair and scalp to help keep them hydrated and healthy. These are amongst many of the antioxidants, which help protect the skin from harmful environmental exposure.

Citric Acid

is a naturally occurring fruit acid found in many citrus fruits such as lemons and limes. It is used in all our products to help balance the pH in our products to keep them at the same pH as the skin and hair.

Clean as a Bean

okay, okay we admit it. This is nonsense, and means nothing whatsoever. The nit-pickers amongst you would probably ask us to specify exactly which type of bean we are talking about. Then we’d struggle for an answer because the only beans we really know of are baked beans, kidney beans and the multi-coloured jelly variety (mm, our favourites) none of which are very clean. But it sounds good, right?

Cocamidopropyl Betaine

is derived from coconut oil. It is a mild surfactant that is used in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes for its good foam and moisturizing capabilities. It helps thicken the product to help with the viscosity and feel of the product. It also cleans our hair, by helping the oil and dirt to mix with water so they can be rinsed away.

Coco-Glucoside

is derived from coconut and fruit sugars. It is a biodegradable, mild, surfactant used in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes, which has good foaming properties to help build lather as we wash our hair. It can help smooth the hair and increase manageability, and also works with the other surfactants to assist in cleaning our hair.

Cucumis Sativus

is simply, cucumber. This ingredient functions as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-conditioning agent. Cucumber extract contains a wide variety of beneficial nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, which help to hydrate and condition the skin.

This is used in our Cucumber and Aloe Vera Baby Hair & Body Wash.

is derived from palm kernel oil. It is a mild surfactant used in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes, which works with the other surfactants to build foam and help clean our hair. It is also an emulsifier, meaning it helps ensure the ingredients stay mixed together, and don’t separate.

Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride

is derived from palm oil. It is a biodegradable conditioning agent, which is used in our conditioners to help detangle our hair and makes it easier to comb both wet and dry. It also works against static for smooth, manageable hair.

Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract

is derived from the fig plant. Rich in vitamin C, it helps keep skin to stay hydrated for longer.

Our Glycerin

is of vegetable origin. It is used as a moisturiser and humectant in all our products to help attract and retain moisture to our hair and skin.

It works with the isostearamide mipa in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes as a thickening agent to help increase viscosity and build creamy foam. It also helps condition our hair and skin, making hair easier to comb and giving skin a soft, smooth feel.

Gossypium Herbaceum

is known as cottonseed. This oil contains high concentrations of vitamin E, fatty acids, and antioxidants which have anti-inflammatory benefits and also help keep skin hydrated and moisturised - Win Win!

Hypoallergenic

means relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction as there are fewer than normal allergens. We say the fragrances in our products are hypoallergenic, but in actual fact they are better than that because they contain absolutely no allergens whatsoever. So hurrah for allergen-free!

Isopropyl Myristate

is a synthetic oil which has the ability to reduce the greasy feel caused by the high oil content of other ingredients in a product. This is often added to products to give them a slicker, sheer feel rather than an oily one. This can be found in our Prickly Pear Moisturiser and Fragrance Free Moisturiser.

Isostearamide MIPA

is derived from rapeseed oil. It works with the glyceryl laurate in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes as a thickening agent to help increase viscosity and build creamy foam. It also reduces static electricity by neutralizing electric charge to smooth our hair.

Lauryl Glucoside

is a mild, sulphate-free surfactant derived from renewable raw materials such a coconut oil and fruit sugars. Suitable for sensitive skin, this biodegradable ingredient helps to produce foam and cleanse skin without irritation.

Limonene

is naturally found in many citrus fruits and occurs within the tea tree oil in our Grizzly Mane Detangler. It is a colourless or pale-yellow liquid with a light, fresh scent.

Maris Sal (Sea Salt)

is a unique salt, often also referred to as "dead sea minerals" which can help to soothe hydrate irritated or sensitive skin. Unlike table salt which is often used to boost foam properties, sea salt has a much lower sodium chloride content and so is less likely to dry out hair and skin.

Melaleuca Alternifolia

is commonly known as tea tree oil, from the Tea Tree which is native to Australia. Known for its antiseptic and skin-healing properties, tea tree oil is also widely reported to help deter head lice. This is used in our Grizzly Mane Detangler.

Opuntia Ficus-Inica Flower (Prickly Pear) Extract

is derived from the prickly pear cactus, which is rich in vitamin C and contains skin-softening vitamins E and K. It is widely acknowledged for its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-ageing properties, also helping to keep hair and skin hydrated. It is used in all of our Gruffalo products.

Palmitamidopropyltrimonium Chloride

is derived from palm oil. It is used in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes as a conditioning and antistatic ingredient to help with combing.

Panthenol

also known as pro-vitamin B5, is a derivative of pantothenic acid. It is used as a humectant in our shampoos, conditioners and hair & body washes to help with moisture retention and provide volume. It also helps smooth our hair, making it easier to comb and leaving a shiny, glossy coat

Parabens

have had a pretty bad press lately. They’re a family of chemicals used as preservatives in lots of toiletries to kill any mould or funghi in the product before it has a chance to spread and damage the product. Whilst they are very good at keeping bacteria at bay, they are also a common skin irritant. More worryingly, some researchers have linked parabens to the development of tumours, especially concerning breast cancer. The evidence here is far from conclusive and the jury is still out, but this is why you won’t find parabens in any of the Good Bubble products.

Parfum

is a perfumed liquid containing fragrant oils which help make our products smell scrummy. All the parfum we use is allergen free and phthalate-free. Read more about our decision to use synthetic fragrance vs essential oils here.

PEG

(Polyethylene Glycol) is a mixture of petroleum-based compounds, which are often used in personal care products as emollients (to help soften and lubricate the skin) and emulsifiers (which help water-based and oil-based ingredients mix properly). Some people don’t like them because they’ve been proven to have a penetration enhancing effect, meaning it’s easier for your skin to absorb other not-so-nice ingredients. By altering the skin’s surface tension PEGs might also upset its natural moisture balance, and in turn dry our skin out. And then there’s the association with 1, 4-dioxane which is a known carcinogen linked to organ toxicity. Whilst many PEGs have been shown as safe to use in small doses, we’d rather just steer clear altogether.  That’s why all Good Bubble products are completely PEG-free.

Persea Gratissima Oil

is commonly known as avocado oil and this can be found in our Prickly Pear Moisturiser and Fragrance Free Moisturiser. Sourced from pressed avocados, this clear, yellow-green oil can penetrate quickly into the lower layers of skin, which keeps it moisturised for longer. Its richness in vitamins A, D and E help heal and hydrate the skin and keep hair nourished and conditioned.

Phthalates

are a group of chemicals also known as plasticizers , which are used in many products including fragrances where they adhere to the skin and make the smell last longer. They are also known as “endocrine disruptors” because they mimic the body’s hormones, and have been shown to cause neurological and reproductive damage. In the United States, they have already been banned from use in all children’s products after being linked to several long-term health issues. This is why we ensure all our fragrances used are free from phthalates.

Polyglyceryl-3 Dicitrate/Stearate

is used in our Prickly Pear Moisturiser and Fragrance Free Moisturiser. and is based on natural and renewable raw materials: glycerol, stearic acid and citric acid. This helps to add moisture to our products for smooth and soft skin.

Potassium Sorbate

is a derived from sorbic acid, which is found in the berries of the mountain ash tree. It is a mild, non-irritating preservative used in all our products to prevent the growth of any nasties such as funghi, mould or yeast in the products.

Silicone

is often used in shampoos and conditioners to give your hair a shiny coat, but when used often it can start to build up in the hair, preventing oil and moisture to penetrate the strands and in turn drying it out. For those of you who eat your crusts, silicone is also known to weigh down curls. So we leave silicones out of all our products to help your locks breathe and bounce back.

Sodium Benzoate

is a salt of benzoic acid, found naturally in many fruits such as cranberries, prunes, plums and apples. It also acts as a preservative in our Cloudberry range, supporting the potassium sorbate to prevent any bacteria growth.

Sodium Cocoamphoacetate

is derived from coconut oil. It is a biodegradable, mild, non-irritating surfactant used in our bubbles baths, shampoos and hair & body washes to help clean us by allowing water to mix with oil and dirt, so they can be rinsed away. It boosts and stabilizes foam, and can also help improve body, suppleness or sheen of hair.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate

is a mild, sulphate-free surfactant derived from coconut and rainforest-friendly palm oil. Suitable for sensitive and delicate skin, this biodegradable ingredient helps to produce form and cleanse skin without irritation.

Sorbitan Sesquicaprylate

is derived from palm kernel oil and corn. It is a biodegradable surfactant and thickening agent used in our bubble baths, shampoos and hair & body washes to help increase viscosity, build foam and moisturise our skin.

Stearic Acid

is an emulsifier and natural occurring acid from vegetable fats, which helps to condition the skin, whilst giving it a soft and cooling feeling. This can be found in our Prickly Pear Moisturiser and Fragrance Free Moisturiser.

Sulphates

are used in lots of shampoos and bath products as surfactants to mix with the water with oil and dirt and help get us clean. They’re also known for creating lots of foam and bubbles. However, many sulphates have also been linked to irritation potential and health-related concerns. The most infamous of these are SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) and ALS (Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate) for which there is strong evidence linking them to skin, eye and scalp irritation and potential harmful long-term health effects. This is why we choose not to use sulfates in any Good Bubble products.

All our shampoos and bubble baths use a Tear-Free Formulation, which have been tested by an ophthalmologist to ensure its safety and mildness in the case of splashes near the eyes. We have achieved this by using mild surfactants to minimize any eye irritation. However, we think it’s important to state that even water alone can sometimes irritate the eye, especially in youngsters and that’s why we advise to rinse with clean water if contact does occur.
